Kansas City, MO - With the first pick of the second round, 20th
overall, the Impact drafted midfielder Calum Mallace, from Marquette
University.
“Calum is a competitor and he showed his abilities at the last MLS
Combine," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch. "He was the 11th
player on our list so it was a pretty easy decision for the
technical staff. We are very pleased with our picks today.”
In 2011, Mallace was named the Big East Conference Midfielder of the
Year and a member of the All-Big East Conference First Team after
registering three goals and six assists in 16 games. He was also
selected to the All-Big East Second Team in 2010.
He played a total of 69 career games with Marquette, including 62
starts, recording 13 goals and 13 assists.
He also suited up for the Chicago Fire Premier last summer, in the
Premier Development League, participating in the Lamar Hunt U.S.
Open Cup.
