Ladies and Gentlemen,
What a great result in Alberta!
With 2 CSA executives and the present ASA board of directors in attendance the grass roots spoke and spoke loudly.
They replaced the existing Charpantier board 218 votes to 99. The total Number of Executives who joined him on the way out was 6. The coming day,s to weeks will see a new board who,s mandate we are assured will be to vote for the New governance model that was passed with the help of Jason Devos in May 2010.
Certain members of the CSA executive worked extremely hard for this outcome not to happen. If anything this is a wake up call to those in power of the determination of the districts from coast to coast when they feel they are being undermined and manipulated.
Congratulations to those Alberta clubs who stood firm under intense pressure and intimidation. You have been an example to us all and we are very proud of you all. What you did today was not only a major step for Alberta but a giant step for Canadian soccer. I am sure the shock waves have been heard all across the country but most definitely in Ottawa.
This is a critical step towards the goal of the Alumni Association which is for the FULL implementation of the May 2010 Governance model. It is now time for the rest of the Provincial associations in Canada to take the same bold step and move our National Program to the level where it belongs.
Again congratulations Alberta. You made us all proud today and reaffirmed our faith in the power of the people.
John McGrane
President
Canadian National Soccer Alumni Association
